May is “Springing into Summer Month”, and I believe we might just hop into it this month. It’s looking pretty nice out there today as I prepare this newsletter page. I look so forward to this time of year - its daylight when I leave here and camping season is right around the corner. May is also “Older Americans Month” and we have got a full calendar of events you. Highlight your favorites and I’ll see you around X.A.R.S.C.
Wednesday, May 1st- 11am - GCCOA Leadership Award Celebration at the Fairground Assembly Hall. Cost is only $10 a ticket.
Thursday, May 2nd - GABS (Golden Age Bible Study) will host a celebration for National Day of Prayer. 10am - Snacks in the Game Room and at 10:30 (weather permitting) Prayer on the patio.
Saturday, May 4th - 12pm - Volunteer Recognition Celebration. Please sign up in the front office. We appreciate each and every one of you - let us honor you!
Monday, May 6th- 10:45am - Bingo with Hospice of the Miami Valley and light lunch at 11:30am. Thanks Peggy!
At 12pm today sub assembly will begin. Those in the building after 2pm may pick yours up. Others may pick yours up all day by 4pm on the 7th. Thanks for helping with this annual fundraiser.
Wednesday, May 8th- 11:30am - Welcome to the “Celebrate the Fifties” Luncheon. Wear your best 50’s and we’ll see to the festivities & ribbons. I hope we have as much participation as we did for the straw hat month. Senior Sensations Dancers have some nice surprises for you. Don’t miss this special luncheon. $5 with a reservation - $6 at the door. Hospitality Homes will provide Coconut Cream Pie in honor of Ntl. Coconut Cream Pie Day.
Thursday, May 9th - 5:30pm - Dragon’s Outing. This is sold out. There are tickets available for June 12th. Cost is only $13 and includes a hat, transportation, & a raffle ticket to win a Dragons prize. Sign up in the front office. This is a GCCOA hosted event.
Friday, May 10th - 11:30am - Red Hatters Planning Meeting. Help plan for some of the events and outings.
Monday, May 13th- 11am - Red Hatters will meet here and then care pool to Woodies Restaurant in Beavercreek. Call Joyce Tobin 241-8307 about this and other upcoming theater outings. Not a member of Red Hatters? Joyce can help you with that also.
10am - Men’s Breakfast in the lounge. $2 donation requested. All welcome.
Tuesday, May 14th- This is “Dance like a Chicken Day”. We hope you will join us this day for a scrumptious chicken selection in the cafe and do the “Chicken Dance” with us at noon.
Thursday, May 16this wearing purple for peace day. Especially with all that has occurred this month, it would be extremely nice if all of us participated in this event.
Friday, May 17th - 8am - Fishing outing hosted by GCCOA. Our van will leave here at 8am for the Spring Lake Park. $10 per person includes your transportation from the center. Everything will be furnished for a great day of fishing. Lunch provided and outdoor games will be set up. Seats are limited, so sign up now in the front office. May 1st is last day to sign up.
Monday, May 20th- 11:30am - Monthly Carry in and I H S Speaker. Hypertension will be their subject this month.
Wednesday, May 22nd- We are closed on this day so that all of you may have the opportunity to attend the G C C O A Senior Palooza at the fairground. They have plans to make this a very interesting full day of activities. 376-5486 is the # of the council.
Thursday, May 23rd- This is “Lucky Penny Day”
And it might be your lucky day too. I will hide a couple or more pennies in the center and at lunchtime we will encourage you to go on a penny hunt. The people that find a penny will receive a lucky silver dollar. All welcome to participate.
Monday, May 27th- We are closed for the holiday. Happy Memorial Day.
Wednesday, May 29th - “Ntl. Senior Health and Fitness Day.” In honor of this day and “Older America’s Month”, we will set up the chair volleyball and other activities at lunchtime and we will offer an especially healthy meal selection today. This is also the birth anniversary of the one and only Bob Hope, so we will share some of his jokes and quotes today around lunchtime. We’ll try to show a clip after lunch.
Need your help - if anyone has a clip of Bob Hope at one of his overseas performances - maybe you could share it with us.
Note:
If you ordered subs in April during our fund raiser - You may pick yours up after 2pm on May 6th or before 4pm on May 7th. Check with the office or one of our many members that are selling if you haven’t had the opportunity to purchase and help with this awesome fundraiser.
We are still trying to find out if we have any members that would like to take beginning line dance lessons with Alyce. She is thinking about a Friday morning. Please call Delores if interested.
Zumba Gold is still going well and we encourage you to try it at least once. You may be surprised how much you can do and how fun it is.
Jim Tunney, our computer expert, would like to encourage those of you with the e-readers, Ipads, smart phones, computers, or whatever to call on him for help. He is here every other Tuesday - opposite Bridge. Nigel Gunn assists and he can also show you most any day how to get more out of your gadgets and cameras, too.

Tuesday free movies show at 4:00pm (unless otherwise stated) with free popcorn. Most new release movies are provided by Family Video and are subject to change. We try to show only General audience, PG or PG13 movies which are appropriate. Heartland of Beavercreek furnishes us a snack each week. Some PG13 may not be appropriate for all. You can check the movie out on line before viewing it. Some of these are older releases being shown by request.
